Go-to-market

GTM & Market Intelligence Intern

Research customers, competitors and markets to inform how Athira goes to market — working directly with the founding team.

  • Remote (Bay Area preferred)
  • Internship

About Athira

Athira is an AI systems company building technology to understand how people learn. Our first product is a corporate learning platform where a two-way AI avatar teaches, coaches, and assesses employees in real time. We also offer an avatar API that allows businesses to add conversational AI avatars to their websites.

We're an early-stage, founder-led team in the Bay Area, so you'll work closely with the founding team and have a chance to see how decisions are made at an early-stage startup. You can try our avatar at athira.io.

About the Role

We're looking for a freshman or sophomore who is curious about startups, AI, and how companies go to market.

You'll work on research projects that help us understand potential customers, competitors, industries, and market trends. Your work will be used by the founding team to inform our sales, marketing, and product decisions.

No prior startup experience is required. We care more about how quickly you learn, how carefully you work, and whether you follow through.

What You'll Work On

  • Research enterprise customers to understand how they hire, onboard, and train employees
  • Track competitors in AI learning, employee training, and conversational avatars
  • Research target industries, companies, and potential customer segments
  • Research questions and topics buyers are searching for online to inform our content strategy
  • Organize findings in spreadsheets and written reports
  • Present a final market research project to the founding team

What You'll Learn

  • How startups define and test an ideal customer profile
  • Market and competitive research
  • How B2B go-to-market strategies are developed
  • How an early-stage startup uses research to make decisions

Who We're Looking For

  • Freshman or sophomore undergraduate, any major
  • Learns quickly and is comfortable working in a changing environment
  • Strong written communication and attention to detail
  • Comfortable with Google Sheets or Excel, or willing to learn
  • Interested in AI, startups, business, or technology
  • Reliable and able to manage a few hours of work each week independently

Details

  • Unpaid internship, eligible for academic credit where permitted by your school or department
  • 8–10 hours per week
  • 12 weeks from your start date
  • Remote, with hybrid opportunities in the Bay Area
  • Weekly mentorship with the CEO
  • Letter of recommendation available upon successful completion

How to Apply

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Strong applicants will be invited to a first-round interview after their application is reviewed. Candidates who pass the first round will be invited to a second round, which includes a short live research exercise. There are no take-home assignments.

Candidates who pass both rounds will be onboarded and can begin their 12-week internship.
